Taman Ayun literally translates as Beautiful Garden and is regarded as one of the most attractive temples in Bali. It was built in 1634 by the King of Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Putu.
The temple is bordered by wide canals which irrigate the fields around the site. The temple is dedicated to the ancestor of the Mengwi Dynasty and other important Gods. Taman Ayun Temple is regarded as the “mother temple” for Mengwi Kingdom.
Trip to Taman Ayun
We need to wear Balinese sarong before entering the temple ground and also pay the ticket admission IDR 15.000/person. The temple is located just next to the main road, so it is an easy walk from the car park. The inner part of temple is considered holy, so it is only for those who come to bring offerings and pray. But we can explore around the temple and see all cultural activities from the side. We visited Taman Ayun around 9am when it was less tourists so the we can feel the serenity and tranquillity in this beautifully designed temple with great architectures.
