Goa Lawah Temple

Goa Lawah Temple is an interesting and ancient bat cave temple in Klungkung, East Bali built in the 11th century by Hindu Priest Dang Hyang Nirarta, a Hindu priest from ancient Javanese times.

The cave is believed to lead all the way to Gunung Agung, but there’s a couple of serious deterrents. Firstly, the cave is believed to be home to Naga Basuki, a giant king snake wearing a crown. And secondly, the ceiling and thousands of noisy, long-nose fruit bats. You can clearly see thousands of bats in the cave flying around, though you aren’t able to go into the cave itself.

This is a magical and sacred place and definitely worth a visit.

Location: Pesinggahan Village, Klungkung Bali
